At Tatham Jewellers, we offer expert repair and servicing for quality watches and clocks of all types. Whether your timepiece needs a routine service, precision adjustment, or full restoration, we bring decades of experience and meticulous care to every job.

Our horology work is led by Mr Tatham, who is accredited by the British Horological Institute (BHI), the UK’s foremost authority in horology. BHI accreditation is a distinguished professional qualification, indicating that Mr Tatham has met the Institute’s rigorous standards for technical skill, knowledge, and ethical practice — standards recognised throughout the industry.

Mr Tatham also trained with Omega, gaining specialist training at one of the world’s most respected watchmaking institutions. Very few horologists in the UK attain the level of qualification and experience he holds, making our repair and servicing capabilities truly exceptional.

Trust your treasured watches and clocks to a professional who combines traditional craftsmanship, official accreditation, and modern expertise.

Watch Services

At Tatham Jewellers, we specialise in the professional care, repair and servicing of quality mechanical and luxury quartz watches.

A fine watch is engineered to last a lifetime — but only with correct periodic maintenance. All work is carried out on site by Mr Tatham, an accredited member of the British Horological Institute and Omega-trained specialist.

Mechanical & Automatic Watch Servicing

Often described as a watch’s “MOT”, a full service is essential every 3–5 years (longer for some modern pieces). This includes:

  • Complete disassembly of the movement
  • Ultrasonic cleaning of all components
  • Correct lubrication using specialist watch oils
  • Replacement of worn parts such as mainsprings or gears
  • Regulation and accuracy testing
  • Demagnetisation where required

This ensures precision, reliability and protection of long-term value.

Quartz Watch Maintenance

Luxury quartz watches also require professional care, including:

  • Battery replacement (with seal inspection)
  • Full water-resistance testing
  • Circuit diagnosis and replacement if required
  • Movement servicing where appropriate

Regular battery changes help prevent internal damage caused by leakage.

Water Resistance & Case Integrity

To protect your timepiece from moisture and dust:

  • Gasket and seal replacement
  • Pressure testing after servicing or battery changes
  • Crown and stem repairs
  • Crystal (glass) replacement

Maintaining water resistance is vital in preserving the movement.

Cosmetic & Bracelet Repairs

To restore both function and appearance:

  • Case and bracelet refinishing
  • Strap replacements (leather or metal)
  • Bracelet pin and clasp repairs
  • Strap sizing and alterations

All refinishing is undertaken sympathetically to retain the character and integrity of the watch.

Clock Services

We also provide specialist servicing and restoration for quality mechanical clocks, including mantel, wall and longcase clocks.

A well-made clock is a precision machine designed to last generations — but typically requires professional servicing every 5–10 years.

Routine Clock Servicing

  • Complete dismantling and ultrasonic cleaning
  • Removal of hardened oils and debris
  • Correct re-lubrication with specialist clock oils
  • Regulation for accurate timekeeping
  • “In-beat” adjustment for correct pendulum action

Mechanical Clock Repairs

  • Bushing and re-bushing worn pivot holes
  • Pivot polishing or replacement
  • Mainspring replacement
  • Suspension spring repairs
  • Gear and wheel tooth repair or fabrication

These detailed repairs restore correct mechanical function and prevent further wear.

Case & Dial Restoration

  • Dial cleaning or restoration
  • Glass and bezel repair or replacement
  • Chime hammer and strike mechanism adjustments

All restoration is undertaken with respect for the clock’s age, craftsmanship and originality.

Our Approach

We focus exclusively on the proper maintenance and restoration of quality timepieces. In an age where replacement is common, we believe in preserving craftsmanship.

With relatively few fully accredited horologists practising in the UK today, our on-site expertise ensures your watch or clock receives the skilled attention it deserves.
